Fundamental XR Launches Fundamental Touch: Expanding Proven Wireless Haptics Beyond Medicine

Fundamental XR unlocks the missing dimension in human–machine interaction by untethering the technology of touch

Boston, October 15, 2025Fundamental XR, a leader in advanced immersive technologies, today announced the availability of Fundamental Touch, a breakthrough wireless haptics platform designed to untether the power of high-fidelity tactile feedback beyond healthcare and into industries including robotics, industrial training, automotive, aerospace, retail, and gaming.

For years, Fundamental XR has pioneered the use of haptics in the medical sector, enabling surgeons and clinicians to train with life-like force feedback simulations. With the launch of its latest device agnostic software solution, Fundamental Touch, the company is cutting the wires on haptic technology and expanding access to precision kinesthetic haptics architecture across a wide range of industries where freedom of movement, fidelity, and ease of setup are critical.

“Touch is the missing dimension in human–machine interaction, and precision kinesthetic haptics finally unlocks its full potential by going wireless,” said Richard Vincent, Founder and CEO of Fundamental XR. “Fundamental Touch removes the physical tether, giving users the mobility and performance parity they need to train, explore, and operate in ways never before possible.”

The Technology Behind Fundamental Touch

Fundamental Touch is built on a wireless architecture that decouples haptic simulations from visual simulation and user interfaces. Traditionally, high-fidelity kinethetic haptics required a direct wire connection to a powerful desktop computer, limiting movement and adoption. Fundamental Touch solves this with a client–server model that enables mobility, scalability, and sub-100ms latency.

  • Fundamental Touch Software (Haptic Engine): Runs on a dedicated haptic server. It interprets serialized simulations sent from the headset or input device and translates user actions (e.g., button clicks, scene changes) into realistic haptic feedback.
  • Network Layer: A robust peer-to-peer communication layer connecting headset or input device and server, ensuring low-latency, bi-directional data exchange for real-time force feedback.
  • Haptic Server: A single-board computer or embedded device hosting the software. It connects directly to haptic devices (gloves, arms, pens, suits) and is designed to be embedded into them over time.
  • Output Devices (Clients): XR headsets like Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest, robotic platforms such as Boston Dynamics Spot, or gaming peripherals. They handle the visual rendering and communicate wirelessly with the haptic server for synchronized feedback.

With this architecture, Fundamental Touch becomes a plug-and-play layer for wireless haptics, enabling developers, trainers, and operators to create rich tactile simulations that were previously impossible without wires. The company invites industry to explore its capabilities and use cases.

Expanding Across Industries

With its breakthrough architecture, Fundamental Touch is set to redefine how humans interact with machines across industries, unlocking new possibilities where the sense of touch and simulated sensations transform experiences and enhance performance:

  • High Fidelity Standalone Wireless Simulation – level high kinesthetic haptics into simulations running on standalone XR devices. Reducing friction and cost whilst increasing user experience and precision.
  • Industrial Training & Education – wireless haptic training makes it possible to scale immersive learning across industries. Complex technical tasks, from heavy equipment handling to ERP systems, can be practiced in safe, dynamic environments, supporting the rise of “Education-as-a-Service.”
  • Robotics & Remote Operations – Operators can “feel what the robot feels” while controlling machines in hazardous or remote environments, from nuclear facilities to deep-sea missions and space exploration.
  • Search & Rescue – tactile feedback enhances control in low-visibility or high-risk conditions.
  • Military & Defense – Wireless haptics enable safer explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), mine clearance, and hazardous material handling, ensuring precision while protecting human lives.
  • Gaming & Simulation – Fundamental Touch unlocks deeper immersion in both cloud and VR gaming. By supporting wireless headsets like Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest, and enabling haptic-enabled hardware, such as steering wheels, racing rigs, flight sticks, vests, and full-body suits, the platform delivers new levels of realism. Whether it’s the rumble of a race car, recoil in a first-person shooter, or the sensation of flight, wireless haptics make gameplay more accessible, clutter-free, and true-to-life.
  • Automotive & Mobility – Driver training simulators, advanced in-vehicle haptic controls, and remote teleoperation of vehicles gain realism and responsiveness through wireless force feedback. Engineers can also prototype and test in virtual environments with tactile precision.
  • Aerospace & Aviation – From pilot simulators to astronaut training and robotic spacecraft control, wireless haptics deliver lifelike sensations with the mobility and flexibility needed in high-stakes environments.
  • Arts, Design & Creative Industries – Digital sculpting, 3D modeling, and fashion design can be elevated with tactile interaction, letting creators experience textures, resistance, and form before production.

The Next Era of Immersion

The launch of Fundamental Touch marks a crucial step in the evolution of immersive technology. By removing the tether, Fundamental XR is delivering total user freedom, high-fidelity force feedback, and broad platform compatibility, ushering in a new era of human–machine interaction that stretches across medicine, industry, mobility, commerce, and entertainment.
